Case Study: Replacing two front crowns
This patient had an accident at the age of 12, leading to root canal treatments on both of her central incisors. Large metal posts were inserted to restore the teeth, which unfortunately caused discolouration of the gums (as shown in Pictures 1 and 2). Additionally, the right lateral incisor became non-vital and discoloured.
Dentist:
Prof Dr Christian Mehl
Treatment undertaken:
To minimise the risk of tooth fractures, the decision was made to leave the metal posts in the central incisors, though this meant the teeth couldn’t be whitened, and the gum discolouration couldn’t be improved. The treatment plan involved placing two veneers on the lateral incisors and two full ceramic crowns on the central incisors to improve the appearance.
