Aftercare and long-term care

Your treatment does not end when you leave the chair

Good dentistry is not a one-off repair. It is a long-term relationship, kept on track by a structured recall system that protects the work we have done and keeps your teeth healthy for years to come.

Why aftercare matters

Like a well-built car, good dentistry needs servicing

A new set of teeth, an implant or a full smile makeover is a significant investment, and like any investment worth making, it lasts longest when it is looked after. Think of it the way you would a well-engineered car. It performs beautifully, but it still needs its regular service and MOT to stay that way, and skipping those checks does not save money in the long run, it stores up a larger bill for later.

Dentistry is no different. The treatment itself is only the beginning. What keeps it working, comfortable and healthy is the care that follows, which is why we take aftercare as seriously as the treatment.

Our recall system

How we keep your treatment on track

A strict, structured recall system, tailored to you rather than a generic timetable.

Step 01

A recall interval set for you

After treatment we agree a recall interval based on your teeth, your gums and your history, not a fixed six months for everyone. Some patients need closer monitoring, others less.

Step 02

Regular reviews and hygiene

At each visit we check the health of your teeth, gums and any restorations or implants, and your hygienist removes the build-up that daily brushing cannot reach.

Step 03

Small problems caught early

The point of monitoring is to find issues while they are still small. A problem spotted at a review is almost always cheaper, quicker and gentler to put right than one left until it hurts.

Step 04

Reminders so nothing slips

Our reception team tracks when you are next due and reminds you, so your care continues without you having to keep a diary of it.

Protecting your investment

Implants, veneers and complex work need particular care

Implants and cosmetic restorations are built to last many years, but their longevity depends heavily on maintenance. Implants need specialist cleaning and monitoring of the gum and bone around them to prevent problems such as peri-implantitis. Veneers, crowns and bonding benefit from regular polishing and review.

The recall system is how we make sure the work you have paid for keeps looking and functioning at its best, rather than quietly deteriorating between visits.

Aftercare questions

The questions patients ask us most about reviews, recalls and long-term care.

Contact us
How often will I need to come back?
It depends on your teeth and your history. We agree an interval that suits you, which may be three, four or six months, and review it over time rather than applying the same schedule to everyone.
Why can I not just come in when something hurts?
By the time a dental problem hurts it is usually well advanced, and more expensive and involved to treat. Regular reviews are designed to catch issues long before they reach that stage.
Do implants need special aftercare?
Yes. Implants need professional cleaning and monitoring of the surrounding gum and bone to stay healthy, and this is a core part of our recall system for implant patients.
What happens if I miss a review?
We will remind you when you are due and help you rebook. If it has been a while, the best thing is simply to get back in. There is never any judgement, only a plan to get you back on track.
Is aftercare included in my treatment?
Reviews and hygiene visits are booked and priced separately, and we will always be clear about the cost at the time. We see them as the part of your treatment that protects everything else.
